Overview
The role of the Graduate IT Technician plays a pivotal role in delivering technical support across the whole of Coffey. You will be responsible for the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of desktop PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and peripherals. Your duties will extend to managing software subscriptions and licenses, ensuring compliance with ISO standards, and supporting both on-site and remote users.
You will also contribute to user account management and provide ad-hoc out-of-hours support to maintain continuity of IT services during critical periods.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Infrastructure
- Setup and maintenance of phones, PCs, laptops, and servers.
- Configuration of user accounts (Active Directory, ERP System) and license management.
- Software updates, patching, and general system maintenance.
- Distribution and retrieval of IT equipment across site offices.
- Maintenance of the IT asset registry.
- Setup of IT infrastructure within site office compounds (EHS Manager consultation required for work outside compound areas).
- Microsoft Server setup and maintenance, including:
- SQL Server
- Hyper-V image implementation and upkeep
- Support for internal firewall and Wi-Fi systems.
- Troubleshooting support both in-office and remotely (including phone-based assistance).
- Documentation and organisation of IT department filing systems.
- Execution of various IT-related tasks such as data entry and migration.
Process Documentation
- Maintain/ Create detailed documentation of IT process and procedures to support workflows.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Sourcing of IT hardware and software.
- Obtaining competitive quotes for equipment and services.
- Procurement of accessories (e.g. mice, keyboards, modems, USB devices).
- Providing IT-related information and quotations for tenders and pre-qualification documents.
Software Licensing & Compliance
- Management and auditing of software licenses.
- Control of installed software to ensure compliance.
Cybersecurity & Threat Management
- Maintain endpoint protection using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.
- Manage cloud security via Microsoft Defender for Cloud & Intune, aligning with best practices and business risk.
- Monitor and respond to security alerts,and coordinate patching of systems and applications.
- Support ISO 27001 compliance in collaboration with IT and Compliance teams.
- Assist with threat simulations, audits, and incident response readiness.
- Promote user awareness of phishing and cybersecurity risks through staff training.
- Ensure secure configuration of user accounts and IT infrastructure.
- Maintain cybersecurity documentation and contribute to ongoing security improvements.
Data Backup & Recovery
- Backup and restoration of data on main and remote servers.
- Implementation of non-standard backup plans for site and remote systems.
Communication Systems
- Management and maintenance of telephone systems and mobile phones.
Software Development & Maintenance
You will have the opportunity to contribute to software development initiatives, including:
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of existing applications.
- Development of new applications and web-based systems.
- Creation of web forms using platforms such as Microsoft PowerApps.
- Development of reports, lobbies, and pages for IFS.
- SQL development for Oracle DB, MS SQL, and MySQL.
Daily Activities
- Onboarding new users and devices.
- Software installation and operability assurance.
- Troubleshooting desktop applications, network hardware/software issues.
- Logging and documenting all IT tasks.
- Upholding cybersecurity standards across the organisation.
- Training IT staff and employees on relevant systems and tools.
- Managing hardware/software upgrades and license compliance.
- Overseeing mobile phone setup and vendor liaison.
- Ensuring timely and efficient task completion.
- Maintaining a user-focused approach with excellent communication skills.
