About The Role

Definition:

A member of the tendering team who assists in the preparation and development of tender estimates for civil engineering projects, working under the guidance of Senior Estimators.

Job Description:

We are seeking an Assistant Estimator to join our civil engineering tendering team. Working alongside experienced Estimators and other members of the pre-construction team, the successful candidate will support the preparation of tenders across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

This is an opportunity to develop a career in estimating, gaining experience across the tender process and developing the technical and commercial knowledge required to progress to Estimator level.

Responsibilities:

  • Taking off quantities and obtaining quotations for materials.
  • Taking off quantities, developing scopes of work for subcontract packages and obtaining quotations.
  • Ensuring tender enquiries issued to suppliers and subcontractors contain the required level of detail and that quotations are received within the required tender timeframe.
  • Analysing subcontractor and material supplier quotations, including scope, exclusions and qualifications.
  • Checking quantities in clients' bills of quantities against tender drawings and other available information.
  • Managing tender documentation and record keeping.
  • Working with other members of the estimating team, site teams and senior management to obtain the information required to prepare accurate estimates.
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with suppliers, subcontractors, team members and senior management throughout the tender process.
  • Supporting other members of the estimating team as required and sharing relevant project and estimating knowledge.
  • Developing estimating knowledge through tender experience, training and feedback, including an understanding of civil engineering construction methods, materials, plant and subcontract markets.

About You

Requirements:

  • A degree in a relevant construction discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in an estimating role or experience on site in the civil engineering sector is preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deal effectively with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
