About The Role

Coffey are currently seeking an experienced Water and Wastewater Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to deliver innovative and challenging project in covering a diverse portfolio of MEICA and Civil works.

High levels of motivation and resilience, together with strong technical and organisational skills are essential for this role. The candidate will have a proven track record as a project engineer or senior project engineer, coupled with a strong commercial acumen and design knowledge. They will demonstrate integrity, a hard-working ethic and be target focused, whilst embracing the challenges and changes within the industry. The project engineer will play a key role in the support of a team culture within their team and as part of the company.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Engineering Coordination

  • Support the delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from inception through to completion.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including civil, process, mechanical, electrical, ICA, BIM and HSQE functions.
  • Assist in developing project plans, scope definitions and delivery strategies.
  • Support project execution to ensure compliance with programme, budget and quality objectives.
  • Participate in project review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Mechanical Design & Technical Support

  • Provide technical expertise on mechanical systems including pumps, pipework, access steelwork and process plant equipment.
  • Collaborate with design teams to develop and implement effective engineering solutions.
  • Support equipment selection, procurement and technical evaluations.
  • Review technical documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues throughout project delivery.

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Support project managers and senior management in achieving contractual and commercial objectives.
  • Monitor project scope, cost and programme performance and identify potential risks.
  • Assist with procurement activities, subcontractor management and contract administration.
  • Contribute to project profitability through effective planning, coordination and risk management.
  • Support NEC4 contract administration requirements where applicable.

Site Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
  • Represent Coffey in project meetings and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders.
  • Support project close-out activities and ensure successful project handover.

Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Compliance

  • Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture across all project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Coffey HSQE standards, client requirements and statutory obligations.
  • Support risk management activities and implementation of safe systems of work.
  • Monitor quality standards across project delivery and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes and performance.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience as a Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer or similar role.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems associated with water and wastewater treatment including pumps, pipework, access steelwork, mechanical plant and process equipment.
  • Contract Knowledge: Understanding of NEC4 contractual requirements.
  • Project Delivery: Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects from design through to commissioning.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiar with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Right to Work: Candidates must have an existing legal right to work in Ireland.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership.
  • Experience working within the water or wastewater sector.
  • Familiarity with MS Project, AutoCAD and Trimble ProDesign.
  • Experience delivering MEICA projects within regulated utility environments.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, testing and operational handover processes.
